Opioid epidemic, now declared a crisis by two presidents and numerous commissions around the country, continues to grow. Meanwhile, national organizations such as the American College of Physicians, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control, and the National Institutes of Health call for non-pharmacological treatments for pain. And most patients with pain use such treatments ? called complementary and integrative medicine ? usually applied outside conventional care. Our healthcare systems are not prepared to deliver these treatments. Providers are not taught how to use integrative practices, coverage is not provided for them and our delivery systems are not designed in a way to effectively deliver them. In this panel, we will hear from national leaders on what practices, policies and payment reforms are needed to relieve pain and suffering for the most vulnerable ? from the neighborhood to the nation. ?
